Helmut Siekmann

 

Since summer 2006, Professor Dr. Helmut Siekmann holds the chair of Money, Currency and Central Bank Law. The Chair is part of the new Institute for Monetary and Financial Stabilty (IMFS). The Institute for Monetary and Financial Stability (IMFS) consists of three endowed chairs, one each in monetary economics, finance and law. The chairs were setup within the framework of the project "Währungs- und Finanzstabilität" (Currency and Financial Stability) financed by the foundation "Money and Currency". The chairs are supplemented by three already existing chairs from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in economics, finance and law. It is financed by an attribution of the foundation "Money and Currency" and will be part of the "House of Finance" as soon as the latter is built.

After his law studies at the universities of Bonn and Cologne, Professor Siekmann took the first state exam in Cologne. The acquisition of the title "Diplom-Volkswirt" at the University of Bonn, the second state exam in Northrhine-Westphalia, as well as the conferral of a doctorate and the promotion to professorial status at the University of Cologne followed. From 1993 to 2006, Professor Siekmann held the chair of public law at the Ruhr University of Bochum. After obtaining his high school diploma in San Diego, he was able to acquire intensive international experience as a visiting scholar in Berkeley (1985) and as a visiting professor at St.Louis University in St. Louis, USA (1996, 1999, 2001), at the Université d'Orléans, France (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006) and at the Université Paris-Dauphine (2005). Professor Siekmann has participated as a legal expert in numerous legislative procedures of the German Federation and the Federal States ("Länder"), as well as represented constitutional bodies of the Federal States ("Länder") in constitutional conflicts.
